Our unique surfaces have now been tried and tested for more than 14 years and provided that they are laid on a good quality subsurface using the correct aggregate in terms of hardness, content of resin to aggregate and a suitable primer they will give may years of faithful service. We have a range of 12 standard natural colours however coloured aggregate in more than 70 colours can be supplied at an extra cost. Our pebble system can be laid to borders or patterns as required. The more complicated the pattern the more expensive the work will cost to complete. Unique patterns and numbers can be installed quite easily.
The material is inherently slip resistant but we usually install a further anti slip layer as standard. The surface is stain resistant however aggressive materials such as petrol or diesel may stain or damage the surface after prolonged exposure. Cleaning usually involves washing with a high pressure garden hose or pressure washer on low pressure. More stubborn staining may require scrubbing to loosen the stain immediately after the stain occurs.
Price can vary depending on the amount of substrate preparation required, the size of the area, depth of the system and how near the contractor is to the project. We Would generally estimate anywhere between £45 - £60/m2. Smaller areas 10-30m2 would cost more.
Touchstone external pebble surfaces are perfect as a decorative topping for Tarmac and Concrete surfaces. Our material should only be laid on top of sub surfaces designed and specified to withstand the type of traffic used. For example family cars, vans or heavier vehicles. Our system can be specified to withstand any kind of traffic from foot traffic upto a bin wagon provided the substrate it is laid upon can withstand those loads as well and the correct primer, aggregate and binding resin is used. Different sizes of aggregate are often mixed together to provide a stronger matrix for heavier traffic.
Substrates/sub surfaces should be in good condition with any loose material removed and any necessary repairs carried out to the substrate before application of our system. Our material is usually laid at between 15 -18mm deep dependent on the vehicular traffic used. Areas that only receive domestic or light foot traffic may be laid at around 12mm.
However other sub surfaces such as large paving slabs may be suitable if receiving light foot traffic only, such as patios or foot paths. However these areas should be solid with no visible cracking or sinking and ideally have been laid for 5 years or more. Whilst other similar surfaces are specified on other types of sub surfaces such as block paving, rubber, crusher run only (commonly laid under tarmac and concrete) and plastic mats these sub surfaces are higher risk and more liable to failure so we do not take that risk on behalf of our customers and our reputation.
The material is Suds compliant and porous however to provide a fully porous system a porous sub base and asphalt would need to be laid first. If it is necessary to comply with SUDS regulations in your local area then this fully porous system is not absolutely necessary. It is sufficient to place a long drain at the join to your driveway and the public footpath/road and have any water runoff into a soak way on your property. Driveways constructed before 2008 do not need to comply with suds regulations. If you extend your driveway by 5m2 or more you would then technically need to comply with any suds regulations in your area. If water drains on your property anyway and not into public drains then suds regulations have been complied with.
